LIVING MY LIFE WITH AIDS By Jeffrey Robertson

I came of age during the generation of sexual freedom and rebellion. Parties, fun and more fun were the objectives of life at the time, and during this period it was okay to "come out" and be whoever and whatever you wanted to be. Fueled by the backdrop of disco music, bright lights, bath houses and drug binges, I allowed myself to get caught up with that lifestyle. I would subsequently discover that that freedom wasn't free. It came with a price.

Although I was never one to experiment with IV drug use, my sexual proclivities shifted from one on one intimacy with my male partners, to sleeping with women who very much wanted to "change me". It just depended on how horny I was at the time whom I would sleep with or when I was just plan horny. People, friends and acquaintances were dying all around me, and no conclusive cause of death was ever really diagnosed as AIDS, although they shared the same symptoms that were becoming evident in those who had been diagnosed with it at a time when AIDS was still called HTCV.

I found a certain excitement in the orgy scene, which is where I believed I contracted HIV. During that time, within that environment, and having unprotected sex, I could have been gotten it from a man or a woman.
